The proposal for a bill by the County Legislature Republicans has been announced by the majority of the legislators, highlighting concerns over the recreational use of nitrous oxide, which they believe can cause oxygen deprivation, blood clots, frostbite, and death. While the majority expressed concerns about the recreational uses of the drug, the legislators argued that there is still room for it as a food service tool. The proposed legislation would require retailers to apply for a food sale permit under the licensing requirements of food stores and food processors. Retailers would need to verify the permit before selling the canisters and keep records on file for two years.
