The Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative, the private company that operates redemption sites under the Oregon Bottle Bill, will close the Delta Park BottleDrop site in North Portland on July 31 after the landlord declined to renew its lease. The company, which operates the BottleDrop as well as over two dozen other full-service redemption sites throughout the state, has decided not to open a replacement site. Instead, it plans to expand its green- and blue-bag drop-off sites. The closure ends a years-long battle to remove the Bottle Drop from the Delta park Center shopping area after complaints that it was fueling open-air drug dealing and use by people who collect redeemable drink containers from recycling bins.
