'Unbought, Unbossed': Mejia Says Progressive Causes Were Key To NJ-11 Election Victory

Voters in New Jersey’s 11th congressional district chose a new Congresswoman, Analilia Mejia, in a special general election to replace former Congresswoman Rick Sherrill. The Associated Press has declared Mejeia as the winner, which would give her a significant advantage in the mid-term elections. Mejea is the first Latina to represent the district in Congress and has supported several left-leaning causes, including fighting for higher wages and paid sick leave. She also received endorsements from U.S. Sens. Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Elizabeth Warren. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO commended Mejejeia's efforts to fight for increased wages and sick leave, while the Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin praised her grassroots campaign.
