No-excuse absentee voting began in Missouri on March 23. Kansas City leaders are urging voters to renew the city's 1% earnings tax, which has been in place since 1963 at a rate of 1% per cent. The tax supports salaries for city workers and first responders, street repair, trash pickup, and other services. Mayor Quinton Lucas and Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson argue that the tax is essential for the city and that there is no backup plan if the vote fails.
