Pentagon fires another top general as U.S. war with Iran continues
Published on April 3, 2026.
Gen. Randy George, the Army's top uniformed officer, has been asked to step down by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army, effective immediately. The Pentagon has not given a reason for George's departure, which comes nearly five weeks into the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran. This is part of a series of firings by Heegseth, with over a dozen top generals and admirals removed from their posts since Hegsetsh took office last year. George, a graduate of West Point Military Academy and an infantry officer who served in the first Gulf War and Iraq and Afghanistan, has held the position since August 2023 under the Biden administration.
