A recent state health agency review found that the camp failed to meet key safety and emergency requirements. The camp has withdrawn its application for a summer 2026 camp license and stated that it did not want to "remove any doubt" that it had heard concerns from grieving families, state lawmakers, and the public. The announcement follows contentious hearings at the Texas State Capitol where the Eastland family, who own and operate Camp Mystic, faced hours of questioning from lawmakers.
