A group of community members, organizations, and politicians are petitioning a court to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate wrongdoing by federal immigration agents during Operation Midway Blitz. The petition accuses Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke of failing to act. It details numerous clashes between federal agents and civilians, including the killing of Silverio Villegas González and wounding of Marimar Martinez. Burke responded by calling the request "frivolous" and stating that the special prosecutor would make it more difficult for the Cook County Office to prosecute and secure justice for victims. The only charges currently pending in Cook County are against Adam Saracco, accused of slamming a protester to the ground while off duty.
