A new Wi-Fi attack, named AirSnitch, has been discovered by researchers at the University of California Riverside (UCR), which weakens encryption and client isolation. The attack allows hackers to control the internet or manipulate data passing through unsecured networks. Modern networks have increased their use of encryption and isolate connected devices from each other, which can significantly increase security. However, this vulnerability can be exploited through the use of group encryption keys. The researchers found that manufacturers of networking equipment don't consistently encrypt and isolate devices across networking layers. The best advice for protecting public Wi-FI is to treat them as insecure and place them on a separate, password-protected network.
