The Victorian Liberal and National parties have proposed capping senior public sector executive salaries at just under $600,000 (US$430,000), in an attempt to curb excessive pay in the state. The proposal was rejected by the Victorian government, who believe public sector pay should be set independently. The proposed limit would apply to the level of the Supreme Court chief justice.
