NASA's Curiosity rover has found a surprising number of polygon-covered rocks on Mars, which look like clumps of fossilized reptile scales. The rocks were discovered near Antofagasta in the Gale crater, a young, 33-foot-wide impact crater on the slopes of Mount Sharp. The unusual shape and tight clustering of these rocks have been compared to the scales of reptiles such as dragons. However, it is too early for scientists to determine exactly how these unusual shapes formed. The Curiosity rover, which landed on Mars in 2012, has also found other unusual objects, including a realistic realistic depiction of a creature on the planet's surface.
