Infielder Sam Antonacci, a prospect for the Chicago White Sox and Team Italy at the World Baseball Classic, has been a standout performer this spring for both the Chicago and Italy. Despite his impressive bat-to-ball skills, Antonacci will start the season in the minors. General Manager Chris Getz praised Antonacci's ability to help a team win and play a winning style of baseball. He also noted that the Italian coaching staff has enjoyed Antonacci’s competitiveness and high-effort style. Outfielder Brooks Baldwin had an MRI exam for an elbow injury, which could potentially open up a spot for Tristan Peters, Derek Hill or Jarred Kelenic. Left-hander Anthony Kay is not competing for a rotation spot after signing a two-year, $12 million contract in the offseason.
