Residents Demand Faster Reopening Of Brooklyn Pool

The Metropolitan Recreation Center in Williamsburg, New York, has been closed for more than a year and has left North Brooklyn residents without a key recreational space for swimming, exercise, and community programs. The center, which includes one of the only three public indoor pools in Brooklyn, was closed in January 2025 and has been described as a vital part of community infrastructure by organizers. The rally was led by representatives from the Community Board 1 Parks Committee, who voted for the reopening of the facility. The committee also urged Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue Shimamura to expedite the process.
