Billie Joe Armstrong Played Plenty of Old School Hits at Surprise Show With Cover Band Side Project

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and his side project, the Coverups, played a surprise concert in Berkeley, California on March 25. The band played a 30-song set of old-school rock and punk songs, including David Bowie, Ozzy Osbourne, and The Ramones. Highlights included takes on "Ziggy Stardust" and "Crazy Train". The band formed in 2018 with bassist Mike Dirnt, touring guitarist Jason White, audio engineer Chris Dugan, and tour manager Bill Schneider. They are set to perform at the Notes & Words benefit concert in Oakland on May 2.
