The remains of the legendary musketeer, Charles de Batz de Castelmore, have been discovered by repair workers at St. Peter and Paul Church in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The discovery was made by Jos Valke, a deacon at the church, who contacted authorities to schedule repairs for some tiles. The location of the grave indicates that it concerns an important person, and only royal or other important figures were buried under an altar at that time. Wim Dijkman, a retired archaeologist in Maasricht has been investigating the remains for 25 years and has been unable to convince church officials to excavate the church premises. So far, no evidence supports the claim that d’Artagnan was buried somewhere in the city.
