Sinopec first-quarter net income up 28% on higher oil prices, stable fuel sales

Sinopec Corp, the top Asian oil refiner, has reported an 87% fall in quarterly earnings to 17 billion yuan ($2.49 billion) between January and March. The company's crude throughput was at 62.02 million metric tons, down 0.2% from the previous year. Total refined fuel sales also decreased by 0.6%. However, domestic sales rose by 0.,6% to 43.42 million tons. The firm's oil and gas output gained 0.4% to 131.5 million barrels of oil equivalent during the period.
