The Verge's weekend editor, Rick Steves, has reviewed Russian artist Kate Shilonosova's experimental pop record, Room for the Moon, which includes 11 tracks inspired by Russian and Japanese pop from the '70s and '80s, and children's movies. Steves suggests that while the music is strange, uneasy, and sometimes disturbing, the songs are light and fantastical. The opening track, "Not Not Not," is almost goofy, with its chaotic melodies constantly moving forward asymetrically, and the instrumental "Da Na" draws on a familiar palette of sounds similar to those of "The Full Moon Version" and "The Other Side". Steves praises the record for its unique psychedelic sound.
