The American Kennel Club has named its annual list of the rarest dog breeds in the US, with the Norwegian Lundehund, the only dog breed created specifically for puffin hunting. The breed was originally from a remote island in Norway's Lofoten archipelago and was purpose-built for its purpose. Despite this, it is now illegal in Norway to hunt puffins. The AKC noted that rankings shift every year as new breeds enter the registry. The French Bulldog remained the most popular breed in the United States for the fourth consecutive year.
