The study, funded by the Indian government's Department of Science and Technology, found that there are 143 different species of dragonflies and damselflies in the Western Ghats, with at least 40 of them endemic to the region, meaning they are found nowhere else in the world. The researchers believe this could be due to rare or rare species being overlooked by researchers, or a potential loss of species. The study was conducted over two years and involves hiking to remote locations and difficult terrain. The scientists are currently working on creating a genetic library of all the species they have documented in the area.
