Governor signs 4 education bills into law with new reading, math requirements

Four New Mexico education bills have been signed into law, introducing new math and reading requirements. The High-Quality Literacy Instruction Bill mandates schools to use proven reading materials and aims to identify reading issues early in the classroom. The Office of Special Education will also be made permanent within the Public Education Department to prevent discrimination against special-needs students.
