The French military accidentally discovered the deepest shipwreck ever discovered in French waters, located 8,200 feet underwater. The 16th-century shipwreck was discovered through routine sonar investigations off the coast of Ramatuelle. The team found a ship over 98 feet long and 23 feet wide, likely a 16th century merchant vessel with a load of ceramics on board. The wreck has been well-preserved and has been left undisturbed since its demise. The discovery is part of a wider investigation into the wreck, which experts plan to create a digital 3D model and return to sample artifacts.
