In 2025, there were a record 124 private sector startups in the United States, with only 20 of these companies having at least one female founder. This disparity is seen as a tale of two markets. Companies founded by mixed-gender teams received 37.7 percent of U.S. venture capital last year, while all-male founding teams received the majority of investment. The share of female founders receiving their first venture capital has decreased since its peak several years ago.
