Wiley Nickel, the current Wake County District Attorney, has expressed his intention to significantly increase resources for his office in the next 10 months before he assumes the position. He argues that the county is under-resourced compared to Mecklenburg County, which has 95 prosecutors per capita, is an appropriate number for the office. Nickel also plans to approach the Raleigh City Council, the Wake County Board of Commissioners, and the N.C. General Assembly for more funding for the district attorney's office. He also mentioned potential cases related to political corruption as an important issue, particularly given the recent use of pardon powers by the Trump administration.
