Kansas filmmakers are urging the passage of Senate Bill 52, which would provide tax incentives for future creative projects in the state. The bill would create a sales tax exemption and nonrefundable income tax credits for qualifying film production activities to incentivize and promote the growth of the film and digital media production and industry in Kansas. The qualifications for the tax incentive include new films, videos, or digital projects that meet the requirements of meeting a specific media format for viewing reproduction, intended for multi-market commercial distribution, and anticipated qualified expenditures of at least $50,000. However, any project not directly produced in Kansas does not qualify for the program.
