Google has completed a major restoration effort to Hangar One at Moffett Federal Airfield in the South Bay, a project that could transform the landmark into a hub for innovation and technology. The project was completed by Google’s Planetary Ventures unit, led by former South Bay Rep. Anna Eshoo who led a years-long effort to rescue the hangar from the wrecking ball and restore it to modern-day standards. In 2015, Google signed a 60-year lease with NASA to take over the space. One million man-hours of work were spent in the effort, which included removing lead paint and PCBs from the steel before installing the structure's exterior.
