A match made in opposition: Venezuela’s Machado courts Spain’s right wing

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has met with Spain's main right-wing party, the People's Party (PP) and the far-right Vox party. However, analysts suggest they are divided on social issues such as abortion. Machado chose not to meet with Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez due to his hosting of a summit of left-wing leaders from Latin America in Barcelona. Instead, she held discussions with leaders from the opposition conservative Madrid regional leader Isabel Diaz Ayuso. Despite these warm exchanges, there are significant differences between Machado and Feijoo.Carlos Malamud, an expert on Latin America at the Real Elcano Institute, a think tank in Madrid, said that if Machado wants to be president of Venezuela next year, she should be prepared to meet the head of the Spanish government.
