Businesses along Decatur Street have seen improved visibility and foot traffic after construction fencing was removed from part of the corridor. However, they say conditions remain unchanged as Sewerage and Water Board infrastructure work continues. Howard Smith, who lives above a bar on Decatur St., said construction has blocked his view since September 2025 and business is picking up. Trey Monaghan, owner of Molly's at the Market in the 1100 block of Decatur, said the fence removal is a positive development, ahead of a busy period of events like Satchmo Summer Fest and Red Dress Run. Christina Marullo, whose family owns the French Market Restaurant, said her father-in-law has lost nearly $1.5 million since August due to ongoing construction. The Sewerages and Water Boards anticipates construction to end by fall.
