Republican Rep. Kevin Hern to run for Sen. Markwayne Mullin's seat in Oklahoma

Republican Rep. Kevin Hern, who has served in Congress since 2018, is set to run for Sen. Markwayne Mullin's seat in the Senate after President Donald Trump selected him as the next Department of Homeland Security nominee. If Mullin is confirmed, Gov. Kevin Stitt, R-Okla., will appoint someone to finish his term, which ends in 2027. This means Hern is instead competing to be the full-term senator from Oklahoma. Hern's plans were first announced by Punchbowl News.
