The Alaska Senate unanimously adopted a capital budget aimed at fixing deteriorating state buildings. The capital budget includes $247 million in state general funds, up $88 million from Gov. Mike Dunleavy's initial proposal of $159 million. The bill aims to address deferred maintenance of state-owned facilities, including K-12 schools, universities, and courts. However, it only makes a dent in what lawmakers and executive branch agencies say is a backlog of maintaining state-branded facilities. The budget also includes $17 million to replace a school in Stebbins and $14 million to refurbish the Mt. Edgecumbe boarding school in Sitka. The Senate made no changes to the capital budget bill.
