Thousands of Petersburg, Virginia, residents may have received an abnormally high water bill due to a winter storm. Melinda Bedoya received a bill for her water usage during the winter, which usually occurs during the spring and summer, exceeding her usual usage of 16,800 gallons. The bill stated that she owed $327.74. Bedoya's family has never used that much water before and their attempts to contact the utility company failed to reach them. Petersburg officials have stated that some utility customers have recently received bills reflecting increased usage and charges due to the disruption of the city's regular meter reading schedule by a severe ice storm. Late charges will not be applied and payment plans are available.
