Vineland, a farming town in South Jersey, has rallied against one of the East Coast’s largest AI data centers, a 2.6 million square feet facility being built on a former sand mining site. The facility, being operated by DataOne and operated by Nebius Group, will be more than twice the size of the nearby Cumberland Mall and use about 300 megawatts of power, enough to supply a small city. A constant humming noise from the site has already caused complaints from residents. Critics argue that the facility was approved without community input and will reshape energy use, water supply, and environmental impacts. The rally came as part of a grassroots campaign to increase transparency around the project. New Jersey has about 80 data centers and is expected to triple nationwide by 2030.
