Fed up Ohio voters might get data centers on the ballot, to overcome leaders who fail them

Ohio voters may vote to ban most data centers in the state through a constitutional amendment, a move driven by voter disgust with elected leaders. Attorney General Dave Yost has certified petition language that would prohibit construction of data centers larger than 25 megawatts. Organizers have until July to collect 413,000 signatures from at least half of Ohio’s 88 counties to get the measure on the November ballot. Greg Lawson, a senior researcher at the Buckeye Institute, argues that building data centers helps keep China at bay in a battle over tech jobs and national security.
