Veteran's Family Donates His 100-Year-Old Liver, Making Him Oldest Organ Donor in the U.S.

Dale Steele, a World War II veteran, passed away at the age of 100 from a head injury in February, making him the oldest organ donor in the U.S. His liver saved another person's life when it was recovered at Nebraska Medicine – Nebraska Medical Center and transplanted the following day. Live On Nebraska, an organ procurement organization, contacted Steele's family about a potential liver donation. His son, Roger, attributed his long life to a strong work ethic and a diet of healthy foods. The recipient of Steele's liver was discharged from the hospital five days after the transplant.
