Disney CEO Bob Iger is set to officially transition to the position of successor Josh D'Amaro, ending his 17-plus years as CEO. Despite facing challenges such as AI, labor unrest, and the need to lay off thousands of workers amid industry consolidation, Iger managed several notable initiatives, including the turn toward profitability by Disney+, a rebound at the film studio, and partnerships with OpenAI and Epic Games. His most notable acquisition was the $71.3 billion takeover of most of 21st Century Fox, which came at a cost and led to a messy integration process. Iger plans to remain a special adviser and member of Disney’s board of directors until the end of 2026. His future as dean of USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism will determine how much of an actual retirement phase begins.
