Three new automated trucks are operating on Ohio roads as part of a safety project with Indiana, part of an $8.8-million project by the Ohio and Indiana Departments of Transportation. The trucks, which will deliver shipments for Nussbaum Transportations, feature advanced safety technology but will always have a human driver present. This deployment will test the technology in the unpredictable weather conditions of the Midwest. The vehicles are equipped with features similar to those in passenger vehicles, such as lane assists and automatic emergency braking. These advanced safety features represent a significant shift in roadway safety, according to ODOT Director Pam Boratyn.
