Tiger Woods declines 2027 Ryder Cup captaincy; can leave US for treatment
Published on April 2, 2026.
Tiger Woods, a 15-time major winner, has been granted a temporary leave from the United States to enter a comprehensive inpatient treatment facility as he faces misdemeanor driving under the influence charges. The Florida judge granted the request by Woods' lawyer, Douglas Duncan, citing the need for an "intensive, highly individualized and medically integrated program" away from media and public scrutiny. This comes after Woods entered a plea not guilty to charges of property damage and refusal to submit to a urinalysis following a car accident. The PGA of America also announced that Woods had withdrawn from consideration to serve as the US captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup.
