US Secretary of State Marco Rubio provided a detailed justification for the US launching a war against Iran, stating that Israel was planning to strike Iran, which would have prompted Washington to launch preemptive strikes on Iran. Despite attempts by the US President Donald Trump to retract these claims, they have sparked widespread dismay across the political spectrum. This comes as many Iran analysts believe the US-Israel war serves the interests of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, not Washington. The US has provided over $300bn in military aid to Israel since 1948, including $21bn during Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
