The Coast to Coast path from Cumbria to North Yorkshire has been transformed into the first completed national trail in the national park. The £5.5m project was first conceived in 1973 by author Alfred Wainwright and aims to offer a new generation of walkers and tourists a chance to enjoy the route and contribute to local businesses. The launch of the trail is being celebrated with celebrations at Ennerdale Water in the Lakes and Reeth in North Yorkshire.
