The Cleveland Cavaliers are constantly trying to reinvent their team after a playoff loss, but seem to be always a year too late, according to the latest episode of the Wine and Gold Talk podcast. The podcast's host Ethan Sands and cleveland.com columnist Jimmy Watkins discussed the team's shifting fortunes after losing to Boston in 2024 and the fast-paced Indiana Pacers in 2025. The Cavs also restructured their defensive philosophy around slowing teams from getting to the scoring zone, using physicality to create deflections, steals and turnovers to lean into their transition offense. However, each move made sense in isolation, and the team seems to react to ghosts instead of setting its own terms. The contrast between what the Cavs want to be and what their roster actually allows them to be, is stark.
