The hijacking of planes to Cuba was a popular trend in the 70s, with many American planes often being hijacked to Cuba. Passengers believed Funt was orchestrating the stunt for TV and believed it to be a trick for Candid Camera. The hijacked plane was returned to its original destination after being held in Havana for 11 hours.
