Waymo, a driverless car company operating commercially in Austin for over a year, has expanded its footprint to 130 square miles for riders on the Uber app. The company has also logged millions of driverless miles and is using its own data to identify safety issues. Shweta Shrivastava, Waymo's senior director of product management, highlighted the company's growth and community engagement in Austin. Despite a new law requiring AV companies to be certified with the Texas DMV, Shivastava said that Waymo welcomes regulation and welcomes it. He also mentioned that the company is expanding its service in Austin by actively testing the freeways and airport with the safety driver.
