Sen. Looney says he’s not seeking reelection, ending 46-year career

Connecticut Senator Martin M. Looney (D-New Haven) has announced that he will not be seeking reelection in 2026, ending his 46-year career in the legislature. This will end his tenure as Senate President Pro Tempore and longest-serving Senate Majority Leader in Connecticut's history. He started his career in 1981 as a member of the Connecticut General Assembly and has served the 11th Senate District, including New Haven and parts of Hamden, since 1993. His announcement was made in a statement after his announcement. Governor Ned Lamont praised Looney's impact on Connecticut and said he was grateful for his partner, confidant, and close friend, Senator Bob Duff, who he believes will continue producing superb public policy under his leadership.
