AI study finds drivers used phones more during February blizzard

Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) has found that drivers used their phones more during the February blizzard in the Boston area, which saw an 85% decrease in driving due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility. The study was conducted using Cambridge Mobile telematics' new StreetVision technology, which can identify road risks and help transit officials make roads safer. The platform uses various types of sensor data to identify movements and speed, Bluetooth signals in an area to determine if someone is on a plane or a bus. CMT co-founder Hari Balakrishnan said that on average, through that day on Monday, distracted driving increased by 18%. The company uses StreetVision to study different types of driving behaviors over various periods of time periods.
