A group of teens is suspected of moving a parked J train under Lower Manhattan, causing delays and a potential disruption to weekend service. The issue arose when signal failures occurred on the turn-around tracks south of the line’s Broad St. terminal. The J train had run through a red signal, obscuring a switch used by trains to turn around at the end of their run. A transit worker found the train moving backwards, but only discovered the obstruction when he boarded the train and alerted the control tower. The train was returned to service after an inspection and subsequent investigation revealed that the operator cabins at both ends of the train had been unlocked. No arrests have been made.
