White House border czar Tom Homan stated that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers will assist Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at airports to reduce long security lines during staffing shortages. However, Homan emphasized that ICE agents will not operate X-ray machines or perform passenger screening. Instead, they will take over certain security tasks, such as monitoring exits and other airport areas. The partial government shutdown left TSA officers unpaid, leading to absenteeism and lengthy delays at major airports during spring break. The president announced that ICE will assist TSA at airports starting Monday.
