Kensly Alston and Halley Tejada, accused of murdering New York mom Natalie Vitels, were squatting in a vacant 19th-floor pad at 206 East 31st Street for days before she was murdered. The apartment, once owned by Vitels' mother, was vacant for months and when she returned in March 2024 to prepare for a friend's visit, she found them inside. The suspects were able to enter the building due to lax security, including a faulty front door, intercom, and elevator, according to a lawsuit filed by the victim's son, Michael Medvedev. They were arrested a week after the killing and charged with murder. The two teens allegedly used Vitels’ credit card to purchase items such as a PS5 game system, AirPods, clothes, food and a diamond ring.
