Maggie Gyllenhaal, the director of The Bride, has revealed that Warner Bros. requested to cut some of the film's sexual violence due to concerns about it being too violent. The film underwent several test screenings before being ordered to be removed from the final cut. The director had a specific reason for wanting the violence to be depicted in the film, even though it was "very hard to watch" and "very upsetting" to watch. She recalled working with Pam Abdy, who runs Warner Bros., who understood her desire to depict such violence. The Bride is set to release in 2021.
