The Meridian Solar Farm, which would cover around 2,700 acres and provide power for up to 215,000 homes, is classed as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), meaning the decision to allow it is decided by the government rather than the local council. The solar farm would include a battery storage facility and connect to the National Grid through a substation proposed as part of the 87-mile (140km) Grimsby to Walpole pylon plan. Campaigners argue that the project would provide cleaner, greener and lower-cost energy and contribute significantly to UK energy security.
