Cheers to small business! New York bars, restaurants can now buy booze from local stores

New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) has implemented a new law allowing bars, restaurants, and other "on-premises" establishments to purchase limited amounts of wine or liquor per week from nearby off-premise retail licensees. The law, which went into effect on March 5, allows these establishments to buy 6 bottles per week, compared to the previous limit of 12-pack of canned ready-to-drink cocktails. The SLA stated that this move is a move to modernize the Empire State's alcoholic beverage control laws while supporting the hospitality industry. Critics argue that selling wine in grocery stores could benefit small businesses and create new sales.
