Andra Day has won a key legal victory in her $1.6 million breach of contract lawsuit against former manager Jeffrey Evans, who she alleges wrongfully pocketed $575,486 from her publishing and master recording revenue. A Los Angeles County judge denied Evans' attempt to dismiss the central "civil theft" claim in the lawsuit, stating that Day had sufficiently pled the allegation to survive. The judge also dismissed Evans' bid to block triple damages, finding that Day waited too long to seek triple recovery. The two lawsuits are now being consolidated under Judge Andrew Esbenshade in downtown Los Angeles.
