The season 2 finale of "The Pitt" ended with a dramatic cliffhanger for Noah Wyle's Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. The episode follows the staff at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center through a 15-hour shift on Fourth of July, which marked Robby's last day before he planned to leave for a three-month sabbatical where he would ride his motorcycle across the country. The finale also included a discussion between night shift lead Dr. Jack Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) and Robby, who had been acting strangely and short-tempered, and had previously expressed concern over his own suicidal thoughts. Abbot addressed Robby with a personal essay about his own life and encouraged him to take a vacation.
